飲茶歌．誚崔石使君 (唐) 皎然
Song of Tea Drinking˙Laughing at Mr. Cui Shi --- Jiaoran (Tang)
The first bowl washed the cobwebs from my mind, my perceptions turns bright and clear.
The second cleansed my spirit like purifying showers of rain.
The third and I have obtained the Way, what need now for austerities to purge our perplexities.
Jiaoran was a Buddhist monk and a poet of Tang Dynasty. He was a quiet man with few desires and lived in a thrifty and simple life. From drinking tea he realized the best way to get rid of the perplexities was “Drink three times and obtain the Way.”
The shape of the entire pot has an image of staid temperament and gives people the consummate feeling. There is the inscription “Drink three times and obtain the Way” on the pot, which means we can purge our perplexities and cleanse our mind by drinking tea, to get up to a harmonious and comfortable life state.
